A moment to clarify squares and roots

The radius and its square have been getting mixed up. A short conversation at home can help separate the two ideas.

What went well

Worked out that a radius of 5 gives r² = 25, and explained why the radius itself is 5.

Corrected during session

Initially reported the squared value as the radius.

Question: What positive number, multiplied by itself, gives 25?
Session notes

Separated the radius from its square. Remi will bring the idea back in a later session.

Step 4 of 6

Ask Remi.

Ask Remi
Can you refresh my memory on r and r², and help me work through this together?

The radius is a length. Squaring it gives a different value.

In x² + y² = r², if the right-hand side is 25, then r² = 25 and the radius is 5.

Start by asking: “What does 25 represent here?” Then let them explain which value the question asks for.

Direct Remi’s efforts.

Add the test date and topics, a school report, a working-towards grade or a teacher’s note. Remi makes a plan, then checks later that the learning stays.

  • Preparing for an exam?

Add the date and the topics. Remi plans the weeks before the test, shows you which gaps remain, and checks weeks later that the learning has stayed. Preparedness, not a last-minute cram.

  • Working with a tutor?

Send a session summary or a gap to your tutor. The tutor starts the next lesson in the right place.

  • Your child’s data

Your child’s data is encrypted and protected under Singapore’s data protection law. Only your family and the people who run Remi can see it. It is never sold or used for advertising, and our AI providers are not allowed to train their models on it. Read the privacy notice.
