Remi ("we") is a learning service for KS3 and IGCSE students and their parents, based in Singapore. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) and other data protection laws that apply to our users.
What we collect
- Invitation requests — your name, email, your child's school and year group, and anything you choose to tell us.
- Account details — names, email addresses, year group, school, and the subjects and exam boards you select.
- Learning data — your child's answers, conversations with the tutor, written work, and anything uploaded such as photos of notes or marked tests, together with the progress and insights Remi derives from them.
- Questions you ask Remi — as a parent, and Remi's answers.
- School email verification — your child can verify a school inbox with a one-time code. For that address we keep only the school's domain and a scrambled fingerprint — never the address itself. (The email you signed in with is held normally, under account details.)
- Technical data — device and browser type, error reports and performance measurements needed to keep the service working.
We never see or store your full payment card details.
How we use it
- To run your account and deliver tutoring tailored to your child.
- To show parents how their child is progressing and where to help.
- To reply to invitation requests and send service messages. We do not send marketing to students.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and improve it.
We never sell personal data and never use it for advertising.
AI
Remi uses two kinds of AI model, both reached through paid commercial APIs operated by established Western providers, under agreements that do not permit your data to be used to train their models. Large language models produce the tutoring conversations, marking and written reports. Smaller decision models evaluate and filter content and help score mastery — they return judgements, not prose. For both, we send only what a feature needs — for example, your child's answer and the topic it relates to. Remi also runs its own deterministic calculations inside the service that estimate mastery and choose what to study next.
AI output supports learning; it can make mistakes, and its assessments are guidance for you and your child, not official grades.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to host the service, send email, provide AI models and monitor errors. They process data only on our instructions and under contractual safeguards. Some of this processing may happen outside Singapore; where it does, we ensure protection comparable to the PDPA. We do not otherwise share personal data unless the law requires it.
Children
Student accounts are created by a parent or guardian, who gives consent on their child's behalf. Where U.S. COPPA applies, we obtain verifiable parental consent for children under 13. Parents can review, correct or delete their child's data at any time by contacting us.
Retention and security
We keep data while an account is active. When you close an account or ask us to, we delete the data that identifies you or your child — including your child's tutor transcripts. We may keep learning insights that can no longer be linked to anyone — anonymised mastery data and aggregated patterns — to improve the service. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is restricted to the people who need it to run the service.
Your rights
You may ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or withdraw consent, by emailing hello@remi.study. You can also complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission (pdpc.gov.sg).
Cookies
We use only the cookies and local storage needed to sign you in and run the service. No advertising cookies.
Changes and contact
If we make a material change to this policy, we will tell you by email or in the app. Questions: hello@remi.study.
